Founding Partner of Dixon Walter, Alan has worked in not for profit senior recruitment since the mid-1990s following an earlier career in local government and management consultancy. A graduate in social sciences from the University of Birmingham, Alan has a long-standing interest in the development of public services of the highest order working both within and for a wide variety of public sector services. Progressing from management consultancy into recruitment, Alan has focused on recruitment of the next generation of public service leaders and in recent years has specialized in senior executive search services to UK higher education recruiting internationally for the best talent in both professional and academic management disciplines.

Applying the latest in proactive and inclusive executive search practice, he has developed a reputation for providing internationally diverse pools of talent and delivering real choice in making step change appointments to universities across all university mission groups. Emphasizing partnership working, detailed understanding of context and a proactive approach to search, he has enjoyed successful and close working relationships with numerous universities over many years.
